The African Development Bank has approved a $5.65 million grant to support renewable energy mini-grid projects across 14 African countries. The initiative aims to provide electricity to about 856,000 people in underserved and fragile communities.
The programme, announced on Wednesday, will be co-financed with an additional $5.65 million from the Nordic Development Fund, bringing the total facility to $11.3 million. It will be managed by Camco Clean Energy and Energy Peace Partners.
The project will use Peace Renewable Energy Certificates as a funding mechanism, enabling developers to receive upfront payments for mini-grid projects in countries including Nigeria, Chad, Ethiopia and Sierra Leone.

The bank says the initiative is designed to address funding gaps in rural electrification, with the facility expected to channel investment into regions where access to reliable electricity remains limited.
