Court Discharges Stella Oduah in N2.5 Billion Fraud Case After Settlement

The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, has discharged former Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, and her co-defendant, Gloria Odita, from a N2.5 billion fraud charge. The court struck out the case on Thursday following a plea bargain agreement in which the defendants refunded the money to the federal government.

The ruling was delivered by Justice Hamza Muazu after the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, informed the court that the Attorney General of the Federation had confirmed receipt of the money from the two women.

Mr Oyedepo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, told the court that the restitution was made in line with Section 270 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, which governs plea bargaining. The prosecution and defence lawyers jointly requested that the charges against the two individuals be struck out, a call the judge granted.
