MultiChoice to Move Showmax Content to DStv Stream

MultiChoice has announced plans to move Showmax content to its sister platform, DStv Stream, as part of a restructuring of its streaming services. The company said Showmax subscriptions will end on the first of April, ahead of the planned shutdown of the standalone platform later in the month.

Under the new arrangement, Showmax Originals and selected titles will be available in a dedicated section on DStv Stream. The platform will combine on-demand entertainment with live television, sports, and a wide range of local and international content.

MultiChoice said existing Showmax subscribers will be migrated to DStv Stream on the Compact package and will continue to access content at no extra cost until the end of May. The company explained that the move is aimed at improving user experience and aligning with global streaming trends.

Showmax, launched in 2015, played a major role in promoting African storytelling through popular series and original productions. MultiChoice says it will continue investing in local content, while DStv Stream will offer expanded features and access across multiple devices.
