Yusuf Tuggar has resigned from his position as Minister of Foreign Affairs ahead of the 2027 general elections. The development was announced on Monday by his media aide, Alkasim Abdulkadir.
The statement said Tuggar has submitted his resignation letter to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in line with a recent directive by President Bola Tinubu. Political appointees seeking elective positions were asked to step down on or before March 31, 2026.
Tuggar is expected to join the race for the Bauchi State governorship in the next election cycle. During his time in office, he was credited with advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy through diplomacy, diaspora engagement, and support for citizens abroad.
