The University of Jos has ordered the immediate evacuation of students from all hostels after a deadly attack in a nearby community heightened security fears. At least 28 people were killed and several others injured in Angwan Rukuba, a community close to the university, in what authorities describe as a suspected bandit assault.
The attack prompted outrage across social media and led the Plateau state government to impose a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area. Two students and a staff member of the university were among those affected, raising urgent concerns for student safety.
University management has postponed its 120th inaugural lecture and moved the venue for the 50th induction ceremony for pharmacy students. The vice-chancellor has coordinated with the state governor to provide transport for the evacuation, which will begin for students living within Jos from Wednesday afternoon and for those from outside the city on Thursday morning.

Security has been increased across all university facilities, and all examinations scheduled for the week have been postponed until after Easter. The university assures the community that every measure is being taken to safeguard students and staff as authorities monitor the situation closely.
