Nearly 1,200 children killed or injured in Yemen despite truce, says NGO

Nearly 1,200 children have been killed or injured in Yemen since a United Nations-backed truce in 2022, according to Save the Children. The organisation said the casualties occurred despite a sharp reduction in active fighting across the country.

The UK-based NGO said at least 339 children have been killed and 843 injured since the ceasefire was brokered on 2 April 2022. It added that nearly one in two of the child casualties were caused by landmines and explosive remnants of war.

Save the Children said children were more vulnerable than adults to such explosives due to limited awareness and exposure in conflict-affected areas. It warned that continued regional tensions could further worsen risks for children in Yemen.
