18 Nigerians Secure Two Million Dollars Berklee Scholarships at Tiwa Savage Programme

Eighteen young Nigerians have been awarded scholarships worth more than two million dollars to study at Berklee College of Music in the United States. The awards were announced at the grand finale of the Berklee in Nigeria intensive music programme, held at the National Theatre in Lagos, marking the end of the initiative’s inaugural edition.

The programme was organised by the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation in partnership with Berklee, and ran from April twenty second to twenty sixth. It brought world-class music training to Nigeria for the first time under the Berklee on the Road platform, with the goal of connecting Africa’s creative industry to global education standards.

A total of one hundred and twenty participants were selected from over two thousand applicants, undergoing intensive daily sessions at the MUSON Centre School of Music in Lagos. Training covered performance, songwriting, production, and music business, alongside mentorship and scholarship interviews, culminating in live presentations of original compositions.

The closing event attracted over one thousand attendees and featured performances by participants as well as established acts, including Teni. Organisers say the programme represents a major step in expanding access to structured music education in Africa, with plans already underway to sustain and grow the initiative in future editions.
