President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs. She replaces Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue the Bauchi governorship election in 2027.
The president also named Sola Enikanolaiye as minister of state for foreign affairs. The announcement was made by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga in a statement released on Wednesday.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu had been serving as minister of state for foreign affairs prior to her elevation. Enikanolaiye, a career diplomat from Kogi state, previously held the position of senior special assistant to the president on foreign affairs and international relations. He brings more than three decades of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service, including roles as permanent secretary and postings in several international capitals.
President Tinubu said the appointments are part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy framework, improve efficiency, and deepen global engagement. He tasked the new leadership with promoting national interests, advancing economic diplomacy, supporting regional stability, and protecting Nigerians living abroad.
