IGP Approves Dismissal, Prosecution of Officers Over Killing in Delta

The Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, has approved the dismissal and prosecution of Assistant Superintendent of Police Nuhu Usman and other officers over the killing of a suspect in Efunrun, Delta State. The decision follows recommendations by the Force Disciplinary Committee after a review of the incident, which found that the officers acted in violation of established rules governing the use of firearms.

Force Public Relations Officer Anthony Placid said the disciplinary process has been concluded and the findings forwarded to the Police Service Commission for ratification in line with due process. He added that the officers involved will face prosecution upon completion of administrative procedures.

The incident drew national attention after a video circulated on social media showing the victim, later identified as Mene Ogidi, restrained with his hands tied behind his back before being shot. The footage sparked widespread public outrage and renewed concerns about extrajudicial actions by security personnel.
