The Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Radda, says informants within government, security agencies and local communities are supplying intelligence to bandits operating in the state.
Speaking in an interview, Gov. Radda said security operations were being compromised by people leaking sensitive information to criminal groups. He alleged that a notorious bandit identified as Mohammed had repeatedly escaped arrest after receiving advance notice of security plans and troop movements.
The governor said some communities had also entered into peace negotiations with bandits after seeking approval from the state government. According to him, some local government areas that embraced dialogue have not recorded attacks for more than a year.

Radda maintained that he does not personally support negotiating with bandits but said he allowed communities to pursue peace talks in response to worsening insecurity and demands from residents for an end to attacks.
