Obasanjo Explains Why He Initially Disliked Charly Boy

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says he initially held a negative impression of singer Charly Boy due to his appearance and lifestyle. He made the remarks on the “Before Tomorrow Comes” podcast, where he reflected on his long-standing relationship with Charly Boy’s father, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.

Obasanjo said he admired the late Supreme Court judge for his discipline and grooming, and was surprised that his son presented a very different image. He said he deliberately avoided discussing Charly Boy with his father because of his expectations of how a judge’s son should behave.

The former president said his perception changed after observing Charly Boy’s devotion to his parents. He praised the singer’s care for both his late father and his mother, describing it as exceptional and a key factor that drew them closer.

Obasanjo added that he eventually learned lessons from Charly Boy’s independence and commitment to living life on his own terms, despite not conforming to conventional expectations.
