PMAN Suspends National Treasurer, Eight Others

The National Executive Council of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has suspended national treasurer Baba Ojonugwa and eight other executives following the adoption of the final report of the national disciplinary committee at a meeting on Sunday. In a statement released on Monday by the acting general secretary, Elizabeth Khara Gabriel, the disciplinary process stemmed from the executives’ alleged involvement in a WhatsApp group call in December 2025 and other acts considered inconsistent with the constitutional discipline, order and institutional integrity of PMAN.

The matter was referred to the disciplinary committee through a motion moved by Orok Duke, and the committee invited the affected members, sent query and reminder letters, and held two Zoom sessions to hear their side of the story, but they failed to appear or defend themselves despite being given several opportunities.

The statement said the disciplinary committee reported that the affected persons were duly notified and afforded opportunity to appear, respond and defend themselves, but failed, neglected or refused to participate in the proceedings despite the additional opportunity granted in the interest of fair hearing. Following the committee’s report, the NEC approved disciplinary actions, including suspension for up to twelve months, in line with the union’s constitution.

Following the suspension of Ojonugwa, the NEC unanimously appointed Uche James as the acting national treasurer, while affected chapters were placed under interim administrative arrangements where necessary.
