Gunmen attacked the Nigeria Immigration Service passport office in Ogbomoso on Tuesday, making away with a rifle, ammunition, and other valuables while injuring two immigration officers on duty. In a statement on Wednesday, police spokesperson Ayanlade Olayinka said the officer in charge of the passport office raised an alarm at about 8:45 pm after armed men invaded the premises, prompting immediate reinforcement of operatives to the scene.
Preliminary investigations revealed that about five assailants scaled the rear perimeter fence of the facility, which borders a vast bushland, before attacking the two officers with sticks and other dangerous weapons. The attackers escaped with a G3 rifle assigned to the office, its ammunition, a mobile phone belonging to one of the officers, a generating set, and a motorcycle battery.
Olayinka confirmed that the injured officers have received medical attention and are in stable condition, while surveillance and tactical teams have intensified operations in and around the area, including combing adjoining bushes and possible escape routes.
The police command stated that intelligence assets and informants have been activated to generate actionable information capable of leading to the arrest of the suspects, and all relevant investigative and operational resources have been deployed to ensure a swift breakthrough. Meanwhile, the police commissioner, Abimbola Olugbenga, has directed all operational and intelligence units to deploy every available resource towards apprehending the attackers, and a joint task team has been constituted with the NIS state comptroller to strengthen coordination.
