Wales boss Craig Bellamy is in talks with Burnley about becoming their new head coach, although no agreement is in place yet, with Burnley having long admired Bellamy following his previous role at the club as an assistant to Vincent Kompany. The Football Association of Wales remains hopeful Bellamy could stay on as Wales boss, as the FAW and Bellamy have enjoyed an excellent working relationship, with Bellamy happy in his role as men’s senior head coach.
Bellamy’s two-year tenure as Wales head coach has earned the 46-year-old a reputation as an up-and-coming coaching talent. Euro 2028 is now just two years away with Wales hosting several matches, including the opening fixture at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, something Bellamy had spoken warmly about leading out Wales at a home tournament.
While no agreements have been reached, it is understood that compensation for early contract release is unlikely to be a sticking point. Bellamy’s potential departure would be a significant blow to Wales’ preparations for upcoming competitions. The FAW is believed to be keen on retaining his services, given the team’s recent progress.
Bellamy has built a strong rapport with the players and has implemented an attractive style of play. The talks with Burnley represent a significant opportunity for Bellamy to return to club management at a high level. Burnley have been looking for a new manager after their recent struggles in the Championship.
