Police Have Capacity to Tackle Insecurity, Says DIG Mohammed

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development and Coordinating the North-Central Zone, Isyaku Mohammed, says the Nigeria Police Force has the training, manpower and operational equipment required to combat banditry, kidnapping and other security threats across the country.

Mohammed spoke during a stakeholders’ engagement in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday as part of an official visit to the Niger State Police Command to assess the security situation and convey the message of the Inspector-General of Police to officers and stakeholders.

The DIG said the proposed establishment of state police is intended to strengthen community policing and complement the work of the federal police. He added that the Nigeria Police Force does not see the initiative as a threat but as a collaborative effort to improve security nationwide.

Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police in Niger State, Adamu Elleman, described the visit as a timely intervention. Stakeholders at the meeting called for improved welfare and retirement benefits for police personnel, better equipment and logistics support for security agencies, and greater community cooperation in tackling crime.
