The Nigerian Exchange has postponed its planned new pricing methodology for equities trading, just a day before it was due to take effect on Monday.
NGX Group’s Head of Communications, Clifford Akpolo, told reporters the rollout is “postponed, not shelved,” with a new date to be announced later, citing ongoing engagement with the market.
The framework, approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission, would have introduced tiered minimum trading volume thresholds before a stock’s price could move, replacing the current flat bands.
Analysts had expected it to significantly ease price discovery for premium stocks such as Seplat Energy, Dangote Cement and Nestlé Nigeria. For now, the existing pricing bands remain in force.
