Police in Plateau State have arrested a suspect believed to be the mastermind of a deadly attack on Bin-Per community.
Gunmen attacked the village in Kombun District, Mangu local government area, in the early hours of Tuesday. Police say at least 25 people were killed and four others injured. Attackers reportedly moved house to house, targeting residents as they slept.
Police spokesperson Alfred Alabo confirmed the arrest on Wednesday. He said investigations continue, and a manhunt is underway for other suspects who fled.
Separately, the Nigerian Army has relocated the tactical headquarters of its Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, from Jos to Mangu.
The army’s General Officer Commanding, Major General Williams Dangana, announced the move on Wednesday. He also launched a new operation, called Hard Nut, to dismantle armed groups behind repeated attacks in the area. Additional troops and equipment have been deployed.
Officials say troops will stay in Mangu until the violence stops and residents can move and farm freely.
