Abia State Governor Alex Otti has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to removing all barriers that limit the participation of Persons with Disabilities in society. In a goodwill message issued in Umuahia to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Governor Otti said eliminating such barriers is a must, stressing that the state is aligning with global efforts to promote disability rights and inclusion.
The governor, represented by his Special Assistant on Persons with Disabilities, David Anyaele, said Abia is reflecting on the contributions of persons with disabilities to the state’s development. He noted that his government remains dedicated to promoting equal opportunities under the Abia State Disability Law, the National Disability Act, and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
He said newly procured mass-transit buses now come with features to support people with physical disabilities, the elderly, and pregnant women.
