Act Now Over Brutalization Of Ajaero, Labour Tells Tinubu And Inspector General Of Police

Organised Labour, yesterday, called on President Bola Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police to act fast and ensure that those behind the brutalization of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, President, Comrade Joe Ajaero are brought to book.

The Organised Labour body also said that the action it took at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja was one among other actions to be taken over what it called, the dastardly act perpetrated by the Imo State government and its agents.

Speaking during the protest rally at the airport, the President of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, Festus Osifo, warned that the Nigeria government should act swiftly to ensure that the uprising in Tunisia concerning an individual which triggered what is widely known as the Arab Spring, does not happen in Nigeria.

Mr Osifo also said despite the fact that the incident concerning the NLC president occurred in Imo State, organised labour decided to rally in Abuja because, according to him, the brutalised NLC president is a national figure, and the Police that allegedly brutalised him is a national institution, and not Imo State Police.

He added that the Police report to the Inspector General of Police, who in turn reports to the President of Nigeria, and the Abuja rally was  just the first stage of a series of activities that will happen, except the Nigerian government arrests those people who brutalised the NLC president and Nigerian workers.
