Acting Consul-General of Brazil calls for stronger Nigeria–Brazil ties

Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen ties with Brazil are facing setbacks, with stakeholders citing poor connectivity, weak financing and policy gaps ahead of the Lagos Fanti Carnival 2026. The concerns were raised at an Afro-Brazilian Economic and Cultural Summit held in Lagos.

The Acting Consul-General of Brazil, Arnaldo Clarete Salabert, said the absence of direct air links remains a major barrier to trade, tourism and institutional exchange. He added that planned cooperation in agriculture could create up to one hundred thousand jobs, while renewed engagement with Petrobras signals interest in Nigeria’s energy sector.

Radio Now’s Aminat Muskilu reports that officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture said the creative industry is central to economic growth. Organisers of the Lagos Fanti Carnival described the event as a platform for economic activity involving performers, service providers and local communities, but noted that funding and structured investment remain limited.

Experts and scholars at the summit called for stronger policy direction and infrastructure to support collaboration. They said progress in Nigeria–Brazil relations will depend on practical frameworks to drive trade and cultural exchange.
