ADC blames Tinubu as Nigeria ranks fourth in global terror index

The African Democratic Congress says Nigeria’s ranking as the fourth most terrorism-affected country in the 2026 Global Terrorism Index reflects a failure of the administration of Bola Tinubu to secure the country. The party’s national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the remarks in a statement on Thursday.

He cited the report’s findings of a 43 per cent increase in terror attacks, rising from 120 incidents in 2024 to 171 in 2025, alongside a rise in civilian casualties. He said Borno State accounts for 67 per cent of attacks and 72 per cent of deaths, with civilians making up most of those killed.

Abdullahi also said insurgent groups remain active, with ISWAP responsible for over half of the attacks and deaths, while Boko Haram continues operations. He added that new groups have emerged, and attributed the trend to weak governance, internal instability and economic challenges identified in the report.

The ADC said it would adopt measures, including improved intelligence coordination, decentralised policing and preventive security strategies if elected, aimed at addressing insecurity and strengthening response systems across the country.
