ADC Plans ECOWAS Court Action Against APC Over Edo Attack

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it will file a complaint against the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the ECOWAS Court of Human Rights following an attack on prominent opposition figures in Edo State. The ADC’s national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said in a statement that the party views the incident as part of a pattern of political intimidation against opposition members.

He said the planned legal action at the regional court reflects the seriousness with which the party regards the reported violence. Abdullahi described the attack as an act of terrorism and said the party will also present its case to all diplomatic missions in the West African sub‑region.

He highlighted what he called inflammatory rhetoric and threats against opposition figures in the lead‑up to the incident. According to him, such rhetoric came from public officials and contributed to a climate of tension that he said risks undermining public order.

The ADC spokesperson accused the Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo, of making statements that could heighten tensions, including comments about not being able to guarantee the safety of visiting opposition leaders.

Abdullahi warned that if harm comes to ADC leaders, members, or supporters due to what he described as official hostility or intimidation, responsibility will rest with those he accused of stoking tension. He said the ADC will not bow to intimidation and urged its supporters to remain vigilant while continuing lawful political activities.
