The David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally rejected the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to delist its recognised leadership. In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, the faction described the commission’s action as a violation of a subsisting court judgment that affirmed its executive committee.
According to the faction, the electoral commission’s move is an overreach that threatens the internal democracy of political parties in Nigeria. The David Mark-led executive accused INEC of attempting to impose a parallel leadership on the ADC despite a clear court order validating its position.
The group further stated that it had already submitted all necessary documents to the commission in compliance with electoral laws. The faction warned that it would pursue legal action to challenge the delisting and prevent what it called an unlawful interference in its affairs. The group maintained that only the judiciary has the final say in disputes over party leadership.

The internal crisis within the ADC stems from a prolonged leadership tussle that has produced rival factions, both claiming legitimacy. The Independent National Electoral Commission had earlier updated its records to reflect a different leadership structure, prompting the response from the David Mark faction.
