The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has rejected plans to increase salaries for Nigeria’s top political office holders, calling the move insensitive and disconnected from the realities facing citizens.
In a statement, the party criticised the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission’s proposal to raise pay for the President, Vice President, governors and senior legislators. It argued that such a decision, at a time of spiralling food and fuel prices, would only worsen public frustration.

The ADC noted that the current ₦70,000 minimum wage has been severely weakened by inflation, leaving millions unable to meet basic needs, while office holders already benefit from extensive allowances and perks.
The party urged the government to suspend the plan and instead prioritise wage increases for workers and expanded welfare for vulnerable groups. It warned the move could erode trust and widen discontent.
