ADC Warns Against Using Alleged Coup Plot to Silence Critics

ADC Sets Four-Pillar Standard for 2027 Candidates

The African Democratic Congress has cautioned the Federal Government against exploiting reports of an alleged coup plot to suppress opposition voices or intimidate critics.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said while it condemns any threat to Nigeria’s democracy, it will not accept political witch-hunts disguised as national security measures.

The party expressed concern over conflicting official statements and the Defence Headquarters’ denial of any coup claim, saying the inconsistencies suggest the narrative may have been politically motivated. It faulted the government’s silence, warning it had allowed suspicion to grow unchecked.

The ADC urged the authorities to clarify the true situation, warning that desperation to control public opinion could erode civil rights and endanger the nation’s democracy.
