The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has overturned Senegal’s victory in the Africa Cup of Nations final and awarded the title to Morocco. The decision followed a ruling by CAF’s Appeal Board, which found that Senegal forfeited the match after players walked off the pitch during the game in Rabat.
The final was originally played on January 18, 2026, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where Senegal defeated Morocco 1-0 after extra time. However, the match was marred by controversy when Senegal’s players left the field in protest over a late penalty awarded to Morocco during stoppage time.
CAF said the walk-off violated competition regulations, specifically rules that require teams to remain on the pitch unless directed otherwise by the referee. The Appeal Board ruled that Senegal’s actions constituted a forfeiture, and the result was officially recorded as a 3-0 win in favour of Morocco.

Morocco had filed the appeal through its football federation, arguing that the rules should be applied consistently. The ruling now hands Morocco the continental title, while Senegal is expected to challenge the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
