Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The appeal was made in a communiqué issued at the conclusion of the group’s general meeting, held at the residence of its leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo. The session was chaired by Afenifere’s Deputy Leader, Oba Oladipo Olaitan.
The communiqué, jointly signed by Oba Olaitan and the organisation’s National Publicity Secretary, Prince Justice Faloye, described Mr Kanu’s release as essential for justice and national reconciliation.

Afenifere expressed concerns over the fairness of the legal process surrounding the separatist leader, citing “controversial and conflicting proceedings in various courts” as a significant impediment to a fair hearing.
In addition to this, the meeting ratified the appointment of Mr Dele Farotimi as the National Organising Secretary of the group.
