Pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group Afenifere has renewed calls for the urgent creation of state police to curb worsening insecurity across Nigeria’s South-West.
Following a high-level caucus meeting at the Akure residence of its national leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the group urged the Federal Government to prioritise a restructuring of the national security framework. It stressed the need for regional control, better coordination, and technology-driven policing.

Afenifere also advocated for expanded recruitment into the Amotekun corps and deployment of tools such as drones and trackers to secure Yoruba-speaking areas, including parts of Kwara and Kogi States.
The group called on National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu to collaborate with governors to craft practical, localised solutions, warning that failure to act swiftly risks deepening the region’s growing security crisis.
