AGF Takes Over Forgery Case Against Mike Ozekhome

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has taken over the criminal case filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC, against senior lawyer Mike Ozekhome (SAN). The move stalled Ozekhome’s scheduled arraignment before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on a three-count charge bordering on alleged forgery.

At proceedings in Abuja, the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), told the court he was representing the AGF and informed Justice Peter Kekemeke of the decision to assume control of the case. He said the takeover was carried out under the powers granted to the AGF by Section 174 of the Constitution, a position not opposed by counsel to the ICPC, Osuebeni Akpomisingha.

Counsel for the defence, former Attorney General of the Federation Kanu Agabi (SAN), who led a team of 15 Senior Advocates of Nigeria, also raised no objection. Following an unopposed application for adjournment by the prosecution, Justice Kekemeke adjourned the case until February 24 for arraignment.
