AI Could Add 20% to Nigeria’s Economy, Says NITDA Boss

Nigeria could grow its economy by up to 20 percent through strategic use of Artificial Intelligence.

This is according to the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, Mr. Kashifu Inuwa, who was speaking at an economic forum in Abuja.

Warning that AI was no longer optional but essential for transformation, he argued that Nigeria must not miss the fourth industrial revolution, having failed to fully harness earlier ones.

Mr. Inuwa highlighted efforts to embed digital literacy in schools, train civil servants, and expand the reach of programmes such as ‘Digital Literacy for All’ and the ‘3 Million Technical Talent’ scheme. He pointed to ongoing collaborations with universities, global tech firms and over 45 Nigerian AI startups.

The NITDA boss said Nigeria’s youthful population, vibrant startup ecosystem and over 130 million internet users positioned the country to lead Africa’s digital revolution.
