Amnesty International Nigeria has condemned the assault and public humiliation of Pedro Obaseki, former managing director of Daar Communications, describing the incident as barbaric and unlawful. The organisation has called on the Nigeria Police Force to launch an immediate investigation and bring those responsible to justice.
Pedro Obaseki, a cousin of former Edo State governor Godwin Obaseki, was attacked on Sunday while playing football at Uwa Primary School in Benin City. A video circulating on social media shows him being stripped, beaten, and dragged through the streets to the palace of the Oba of Benin over alleged disrespectful remarks made at a public event in London.
In a statement, Amnesty International said the incident showed a complete disregard for due process and violated international human rights standards on dignity and protection from violence. The group also urged the Benin palace to publicly denounce the alleged abduction and assault.

Speaking after his release, Pedro Obaseki described the experience as traumatic and humiliating, saying he was forced to kneel in public and taken against his will by armed men he identified as known thugs. He said he believed the attackers acted under the claim that they were sent by the palace, an allegation yet to be officially addressed by authorities.
