The Ondo State command of the south-west security network, Amotekun, says it has arrested 39 suspected terrorists who allegedly fled Sokoto State and relocated to forest reserves in Ondo. The arrests followed recent United States backed military strikes against ISIS-linked terrorists in the north-west of Nigeria.
The Amotekun commander in Ondo State, Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed this on Tuesday while parading 61 suspects in Akure, the state capital. He said the 39 suspects were arrested around the Elegbeka axis of Ose Local Government Area, a location identified by security agencies as a hotspot for criminal activity.
Mr Adeleye said the suspects claimed they moved into the forests after pressure from security operations in northern Nigeria. He added that profiling of the suspects was ongoing, and those found with incriminating materials would be prosecuted in line with the law.

The Amotekun commander said the arrests were part of the corps’ ember-month security operations across Ondo State’s 18 local government areas. He added that the agency had intensified patrols and strengthened collaboration with neighbouring states to curb kidnapping, armed robbery and other crimes.
