Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has won silver in the women’s 100 metres hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, securing the country’s first medal at the tournament.
Amusan ran 12.29 seconds, narrowly losing gold to Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, who set a national record of 12.24 seconds. Grace Stark of the United States finished third in 12.34 seconds.

The 27-year-old world record holder recovered from a slow start and was neck-and-neck with Kambundji before the Swiss athlete edged ahead at the finish line.
Elsewhere, Nigeria’s Ezekiel Nathaniel advanced to the semi-final of the men’s 400 metres hurdles after winning his heat, while Charles Edward Godfred failed to progress in the long jump.
