As part of the changes, a new political desk has been established within the department to monitor political developments. The unit will be responsible for conducting threat assessments, managing security risks, and advising on safety measures for political campaigns and other sensitive events.
According to a statement from Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the decision follows a strategic meeting on 29 March with senior CID officials to review emerging crime trends and enhance investigative capabilities.
