Anthony Joshua Injured in Ogun Road Crash, Two Others Dead

International boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been injured in a road accident that claimed two lives in Ogun State. The crash occurred at about 11am on Monday in the Makun area along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, involving a sports utility vehicle conveying the boxer and a stationary truck.

The Federal Road Safety Corps confirmed the incident in a statement signed by its Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide. The FRSC said five adult males were involved, with two people confirmed dead, one injured and two others escaping unhurt, while Anthony Joshua sustained minor injuries.

According to the corps, preliminary investigations indicate that the Lexus SUV lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre and collided with a stationary red Sinotruck parked by the roadside. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Livewell Morgue in Ajaka, Sagamu, while the injured were evacuated for medical treatment.

The FRSC attributed the cause of the crash to excessive speed and wrongful overtaking and said the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division has been notified for further investigation. The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished Anthony Joshua a speedy recovery, while urging motorists to observe traffic regulations, especially on high speed corridors.
