APC Endorses Oyebanji as Consensus Candidate for Ekiti Governorship Election

The All Progressives Congress has confirmed Governor Biodun Oyebanji as its consensus candidate for the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State. The endorsement was announced on Monday during a party meeting in Ado-Ekiti attended by senior party leaders.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved the motion for Oyebanji’s adoption, which was seconded by Ekiti Assembly Speaker Stephen Aribasoye. The chairman of the APC congress committee, Usman Ododo, described the affirmation as a reflection of the governor’s “giant strides” across sectors that have benefitted the people of the state.

The party’s National Working Committee had earlier endorsed Oyebanji after Atinuke Olayemi Omolayo, the only remaining contender, withdrew from the race. Two other aspirants, Kayode Ojo and Abimbola Olawumi, were earlier disqualified from the contest.

Speaking after the exercise, Governor Oyebanji commended the unity and discipline among party members. He said the APC in Ekiti had grown stronger and more attractive under his leadership, expressing confidence that the party would win all 177 wards in next year’s election scheduled for June 20.
