The membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives has risen to about 268 following fresh defections from opposition parties. The development was announced during the plenary on Thursday at the National Assembly.
Twelve lawmakers changed their political parties during the sitting. Six members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) moved to the APC, while five lawmakers from the Labour Party and the PDP, as well as one member from the Young Progressives Party, defected to the African Democratic Congress.
The latest defections have reduced the number of PDP lawmakers in the House to 49. The Labour Party now has 14 members, while the New Nigeria Peoples Party also has 14. The All Progressives Grand Alliance has five members, and the Social Democratic Party has two, while the Accord Party now has one member.
