The Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has urged the people of Sokoto State to lend their support to efforts aimed at securing Nigeria against a foreign armed group known locally as “Lakurawa.”
During an operational visit, General Oluyede assessed the combat readiness of troops stationed in the region. His tour included a stop in Tangaza Local Government Area, a location identified as a potential hotspot for Lakurawa activity. There, he met with local leaders, including Council Chairman Isa Salihu Kalenjeni, to foster community backing for military efforts.
At the Tangaza military base, the Army Chief received briefings from theatre commanders, including the General Officer Commanding the 8 Division and the Garrison Commander.
General Oluyede also travelled to the border community of Illela, where he held further consultations with theatre commanders and appealed to residents to cooperate with security forces in countering the threat posed by Lakurawa.
