Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division have dismantled eight illegal refineries, arrested several suspects, and recovered over 18,000 litres of stolen crude oil in a two-week operation across Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom States.
The operation, conducted between 21 September and 5 October, also led to the seizure of equipment including ovens, pipes, and drums used in crude refining. A red Mercedes-Benz truck and two vehicles carrying illegally refined petroleum products were also intercepted.

Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah, said the raids aimed to curb oil theft and pipeline vandalism undermining the region’s economy.
Major General Emmanuel Emekah, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, praised the troops’ efforts and urged criminals to abandon sabotage for lawful enterprise, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to protect national assets in the Niger Delta.
