Army Foils Mass Kidnap Attempt, Frees Over 150 Civilians

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, have foiled an attempted mass kidnapping by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State and rescued about 150 civilians. The incident occurred on March 30 along the Buratai–Kamuya axis in Biu Local Government Area.

Military spokesperson Sani Uba said the victims, including men, women and children, were being loaded into about 17 vehicles when troops intervened during an escort operation. He said the Quick Reaction Force was deployed after troops came under attack while securing civilians in the area.

According to him, the reinforcements engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon the captives and flee, while the civilians were safely recovered and moved to Buratai for reunification with their families.
