The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, says the Nigerian Army will recruit and train 24,000 soldiers to strengthen operations amid rising security pressures across the country. He disclosed the plan during an operational visit to 1 Division in Kaduna, addressing officers from second lieutenant to brigadier general.
General Shaibu noted that new training facilities approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will produce 12,000 personnel within six months, with the capacity to double that figure through dual training streams. The centres, he said, will focus on modern warfare, tactical manoeuvres, and advanced weapon handling to ensure recruits are combat-ready on graduation.
