The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to either arraign former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai in court or release him from detention. The group condemned what it described as his prolonged custody.
El-Rufai was arrested by the ICPC shortly after honouring an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on February 16 and has remained in custody since then.
Meanwhile, the Department of State Services filed charges accusing him of tapping the telephone of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu. However, he was not arraigned in court on Wednesday, and the case was adjourned until April 23 as investigations continue.

Speaking at a briefing, MURIC founder Ishaq Akintola said the former governor should be brought before a competent court without further delay. The group also urged the Federal Government to uphold the rule of law and respect constitutional rights.
