The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has dismissed the Federal Government’s ‘No Work, No Pay’ policy, insisting it will not be coerced into ending its strike. ASUU President, Chris Piwuna, who made the remarks during a televised interview monitored by Radio Now’s Newsdesk, accused the government of attempting to divide the academic community.
He said all major university unions, including National Association of Medical and Dental Academics, NAMDA, and the Congress of Nigerian University Academics, CONUA, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, remained united in the dispute. Dr. Piwuna urged the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, to address the issues at stake rather than issuing threats.

The ASUU leader, however, signalled willingness to resume dialogue, disclosing that the Minister of State for Labour had reached out for talks. His comments come as tensions rise over the enforcement of the ‘No Work, No Pay’ directive against striking lecturers.
