The Academic Staff Union of Universities has suspended its two-week warning strike, which began on October 13, following renewed commitments from the Federal Government and the National Assembly to address its outstanding demands.
ASUU President, Professor Chris Piwuna, announced the decision at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, citing recent engagements with the Yayale Ahmed-led committee and the Deputy Senate President. He said the union’s decision was to give room for dialogue and progress.
The lecturers urged the government to use the one-month suspension period to resolve issues around the 2009 ASUU-Federal Government agreement, unpaid salaries, earned allowances, and the release of the university revitalisation fund.

ASUU warned that it would resume the industrial action without prior notice if no tangible steps are taken within the period. The Senate had earlier intervened, pledging to mediate between the union, the Ministry of Education, and other key stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the recurring disputes.
