University lecturers have warned that a fresh confrontation with the Federal Government may be unavoidable, citing unfulfilled agreements and what they describe as a lack of genuine commitment in recent negotiations.
Speaking in Abuja, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU’s Zonal Coordinator, Professor Adam Al-Amin Abdullahi — represented by Dr Sylvanus Ugoh — said key issues at the heart of the union’s struggle remain unresolved despite government promises.
ASUU suspended its two-week strike on 22 October out of respect for students and stakeholders, but the union says the government has failed to use the goodwill period effectively. Partial payments of arrears and deductions were acknowledged but dismissed as token gestures that do not address core concerns such as salaries, working conditions, and the long-delayed 2009 agreement.
