Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has joined rights activist Omoyele Sowore in urging the Federal Government to release detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu. In a post on X, Atiku said Kanu’s prolonged detention despite court orders undermines Nigeria’s commitment to justice and the rule of law.
Mr. Kanu, who faces terrorism and treason charges before the Federal High Court in Abuja, has been in custody for years despite multiple rulings granting him bail.

Former Vice President Abubakar, who is also a former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, expressed full support for Sowore’s campaign, saying the case has become a national blemish. Sowore earlier called on political, traditional, and religious leaders from the South-East to join planned demonstrations for Kanu’s release and a renewed call for justice.
