Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has warned against what he described as a rushed re-gazetting of tax laws. He raised concerns in a statement addressing recent tax policy developments.
Atiku said tax reforms should follow due process and broad consultation and warned that hasty implementation could harm businesses and undermine public confidence.
The former vice president insists that no administrative directive by the Senate President or the Speaker of the House of Representatives can validate what he described as a defect in the initially gazetted law or justify a re-gazetting without re-passage and fresh presidential assent.

He described his observations as “a defence of the integrity of the legislative process and a rejection of any attempt to normalise constitutional breaches through procedural shortcuts”.
