Atiku Dismisses Tinubu’s Independence Speech as “Riddled with Falsehood”

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s Independence Day address, describing it as “riddled with falsehood.” In a statement issued by his aide Phrank Shuaibu, Atiku said the government’s claims of progress do not reflect the daily reality of Nigerians.

He argued that while the President spoke of reforms, many citizens remain hungry, with food prices and transport costs rising sharply. Atiku added that pupils still study in poor conditions, hospitals lack basic supplies, and families struggle to afford more than one meal a day.

On security, the former Vice President said Nigerians still live in fear of bandits, kidnappers and terrorists. He cited the killing of Arise TV anchor Somtochukwu during a robbery in Abuja this week as proof that insecurity persists despite official claims of victory.

Atiku also accused the government of failing to provide real opportunities for young people, saying many graduates are forced into menial jobs to survive. He maintained that Nigerians are resilient, but resilience should not be mistaken for support of government policies.
