Atiku, Obi Condemn Intimidation of NYSC Member Over FG Criticism

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi have expressed support for a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, also known as Raye, following her viral video criticising the Federal Government’s policies. The Lagos-based corps member claimed NYSC officials had threatened her after she spoke out about rising living costs.

Atiku described Raye as a courageous young woman who should be encouraged rather than vilified. He likened her to prominent female activists like Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, and Margaret Ekpo, praising her boldness in speaking truth to power. The former vice president said Raye represents a new generation of Nigerians advocating for positive change.

Peter Obi, in his remarks, said Raye’s experience reflects a troubling trend where voices of reason face intimidation instead of dialogue. He added that he too had faced threats and harassment for offering constructive criticism of government policies. Obi urged the government to embrace dissent as a cornerstone of democracy and called on Nigerians to continue speaking out against injustice and misgovernance.

Both leaders encouraged citizens to remain steadfast in their advocacy for a better Nigeria, where freedom of speech is respected, and government officials are held accountable.
