More than 30 people have been killed and several others injured in an attack by suspected herders on Munga Lelau, a farming community in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State. The assault, which occurred over the weekend, followed rising tensions over cattle disputes between farmers and herders.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived on motorcycles, opened fire indiscriminately, and set homes ablaze. Victims were buried in a mass grave, in accordance with local customs. Residents allege that the violence was premeditated and linked to attempts at land grabbing during the rainy season.

The local government chairman, Bitrus Danjos, was overwhelmed with emotion at the burial site, describing the incident as barbaric. He also raised concerns over the community’s porous borders with five neighbouring states, which he says leaves it vulnerable to such attacks.
Governor Agbu Kefas condemned the attack as “horrendous and unacceptable.” In a statement, he vowed that perpetrators would face consequences and reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving security and safeguarding lives in Taraba.
